Description
Anna's body gradually recovered under the nuns' careful care. She no longer needed to stay in bed and was allowed to move around in the monastery's garden. In the morning, she would sit cross-legged in the sunlit room like the other nuns, trying to calm the waves in her heart through meditation. However, those memories etched into her soul, like phantoms, always attacked unexpectedly - Karon's rough caresses, the humiliating whippings in the square, the extreme pain and pleasure on the rack... Every recollection made her body tremble uncontrollably, her breathing quicken, and a familiar, shameful heat rise in her lower abdomen.
She was allowed to walk in the garden, but two nuns always followed her at a distance. Their gazes were calm, but like invisible chains, constantly reminding Anna that she was not free, that she was a patient who needed to be "guarded," a "dangerous item" that could lose control at any time. This silent supervision was more shameful to her than any restraint. Sometimes, when that irresistible urge surged, she would subconsciously tug at the loose white trousers she was wearing, as if trying to confirm something, or as if suppressing something in vain. She even started practicing some simple kicking movements, trying to regain strength and control through physical exercise, but this only made her more clearly aware of the changes in her body's curves and the awakened sensitivity hidden beneath her strength.
One afternoon, Anna walked side by side with Mother Agra in the garden path. The surrounding was filled with the fragrance of flowers, peaceful and serene, but Anna plucked up the courage to ask the question that had been lingering in her mind.
"Mother Agra," she asked softly, her eyes looking into the distance, "that... the device you used to treat me that day... what exactly was it? Why would the monastery have something like... that?"
Agra's steps paused slightly. She turned her head to look at Anna, her eyes calm and unwavering, as if she had expected her to ask. "Your Majesty, you only need to know that it was a necessary means to help you expel the evil in your heart."
Anna frowned. This answer obviously could not satisfy her. "A necessary means? But it looked more like... torture equipment. I don't understand, against evil, aren't prayer and divine power enough?"
Agra was silent for a moment, her gaze cast into the distance, her voice low and meaningful: "Your Majesty, the world is far more complicated than you imagine. The forms of evil are ever-changing, and sometimes, relying solely on devout prayer is not enough to eradicate it. When the forces of darkness are too strong, even when they have corroded the soul itself, we need to resort to some... special 'methods'."
Agra's answer was still vague, deliberately avoiding the specific origin and principle of the device, only emphasizing its "necessity" and "purpose." She did not explain why saving the soul required resorting to such almost blasphemous means. Anna felt a chill. She looked at the Mother Superior who had always given her support and protection, and for the first time felt that she seemed to be shrouded in an elusive mist. This seemingly sacred monastery might also hide unknown secrets.
